Post-Scan Procedures

Main content start
  • After a NIRS session, researchers must sanitize and clean NIRS equipment using the appropriate wipes
  • Return equipment to their proper locations
  • Please return caps to the correct size bins and let the fNIRS Manager know at suannam@stanford.edu when you do return them.
  • If your team is experiencing issues, please email the fNIRS Manager (suannam@stanford.edu) and remember to include your name and email so they can reach out.

Cleaning Procedures

  • Upon arrival, researchers will first clean and sanitize surfaces and equipment that they intend to use.
  • After the participant has left, researchers will again clean and sanitize surfaces and equipment. Please use disinfectant wipes to clean all surfaces that you or the participant have touched. In Ntesting rooms, this would include all table tops, door handles, and any non-porous surfaces on chairs (arms, back, etc.)
  • Use disinfectant wipes to clean the outside of equipment that you have come into contact with (e.g., the outside surfaces of the NIRScout or NIRSport units, biometrics kit, computers/mice/keyboards, the plastic port connectors for sources and detectors). Do not use lysol disinfectant wipes on the probe heads or the fiberoptic ports that plug into the nirscout - this can damage the equipment.
  • Caps must be cleaned after each scan. There are supplies for this in the wash room - a wash bucket and castile soap. Add a capful of the castile soap to the wash bucket and fill with cool water. Gently soak and agitate the cap in the bucket and leave to soak for a few minutes. Refill the bucket with clean water and rinse the NIRS cap, repeating as necessary until the water runs clear afterwards. Place on the air dryer and set time for 60 minutes (NO HEAT). Do not use any caps until they are thoroughly dry.
